PVDF Kynar 500 vs. textured coatings — fade performance.

Coating choice determines how your roof looks in ten, twenty, and thirty years. Mill data:

~500PVDF · 30 yr fade units
~900Textured · 30 yr fade units
45%Less fading with PVDF
10 yrExtra warranty term · PVDF
What do fade units mean?

Lower numbers = better colour retention. PVDF Kynar 500 (Wakefield Bridge & Heritage) delivers roughly 45% less fading than textured coatings (Junior H-F & Ameri-Cana) over thirty years. Both coating tiers are mill-warranted by Ideal Roofing. If long-term appearance matters, PVDF is worth the premium.

Profile questions

What homeowners ask about choosing.

What is the best metal roof profile for a residential home in Ontario?
It depends on your priorities. Wakefield Bridge (metal shingle) offers the best all-around performance — Miami-Dade wind rating, Class 4 hail resistance, and PVDF Kynar 500 coating. Heritage Series (standing seam) is ideal for modern aesthetics with hidden fasteners. Junior H-F is the best value option without sacrificing Canadian quality.
What is the difference between PVDF Kynar 500 and textured coatings?
PVDF Kynar 500 is a premium fluoropolymer coating that allows approximately 500 fade units over 30 years. Textured coatings like Perspectra Plus allow approximately 900 units — nearly double the fading. PVDF costs more upfront but delivers significantly better long-term colour retention and is mill-warranted.
Are hidden fastener systems better than exposed fasteners?
Hidden fastener systems (standing seam, metal shingle) eliminate the most common maintenance issue — exposed screws backing out or their rubber washers degrading over time. Exposed fastener systems (corrugated) cost less initially but may need fastener replacement after 15–20 years.
Can I see what these metal roof profiles look like on my home?
Yes. Ideal Roofing offers a free online visualizer tool (Concepteur) that lets you upload a photo of your home and preview different profiles, colours, and trim options before making a decision. We can walk you through it during your consultation.
What metal roof profile has the best wind rating?
Wakefield Bridge holds a Miami-Dade certification for winds up to 241 km/h — the most rigorous wind test in North America. Heritage Series also performs exceptionally in high winds due to its interlocking standing seam design. Both are rated well beyond Ontario building code requirements.
How do I choose between a 40-year and 50-year warranty product?
The 50-year warranty products (Wakefield Bridge and Heritage Series) use PVDF Kynar 500 coating, which delivers superior fade resistance and colour retention. The 40-year products (Junior H-F and Ameri-Cana) use Perspectra Plus or WeatherXL coatings — excellent quality at a lower price point. Both warranty tiers are transferable and dwelling-tied.
