What it is

The Wakefield Bridge story.

Wakefield Bridge is the steel shingle that built our reputation. Made in Brampton from Canadian steel, finished in PVDF Kynar 500, and engineered with an interlocking shingle profile that handles Georgian Bay nor’easters, freeze-thaw cycles, and the hail that rolls through every other August. Every Wakefield Bridge roof we install carries a 50-year transferable warranty that stays with the home — not the homeowner.

Common questions

What homeowners ask about wakefield bridge.

What does the 50-year transferable warranty actually cover?
Two things: the paint finish (no peeling, cracking, chipping, or significant fade) and the substrate steel (no rust-through, no perforation). It’s tied to the house, not to you — so if you sell, the next owner inherits the remaining warranty term. No transfer fee, no pro-rating in the first 30 years.
How does Wakefield Bridge compare to asphalt shingles?
A premium architectural asphalt shingle is rated for 25-30 years and starts pro-rating at year 15. Wakefield Bridge is 50 years, flat-rate, transferable. In Simcoe County weather, asphalt typically delivers 18-22 years; Wakefield Bridge is engineered and tested to outlast that by 2-3x.
Can it be installed over my existing roof?
In many cases, yes — if your existing roof is single-layer asphalt, in serviceable condition, and your local building code permits it (Ontario Building Code generally does). Re-roofing saves the tear-off cost. We assess on the on-site visit and recommend based on what we find.
Will it dent in hailstorms?
Wakefield Bridge carries the UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating — the highest available. The profile is designed so that any minor cosmetic dimpling from extreme hail doesn’t compromise the paint film or substrate. Many Ontario insurers offer a discount for Class 4-rated roofs.
Is it loud in the rain?
No — a common misconception. Wakefield Bridge installs over a synthetic underlayment on top of the existing roof deck. The total assembly is actually quieter than asphalt under heavy rain. The “tin roof” sound comes from corrugated metal installed directly on open purlins, like an old barn — not residential steel shingles.
